The hairstyle: America Ferrera’s low side ponytail
Great for a date that involves: bike riding, a picnic or beach time—or any other occasion where the wind is whipping (and you want to keep looking cute).

Works best on: all hair types, with length that hits below the shoulders to just below the shoulder blades. If you have very curly hair, allow an extra 20 minutes of prep time so you can to straighten your ‘do.
Products needed to complete this look:
- volumizing hairspray
- shine serum
Hair tools/accessories needed to complete this look:
- blow-dryer
- Velcro rollers
- boar-bristle paddle brush
- bobby pins
- hair elastic
To create this look:
1. This type of an updo style is actually easier to create when hair is not freshly shampooed. Start with second-day hair or hair that had been shampooed earlier in the day and blow-dry smooth.
2. Mist dry hair all over with a volumizing spray and gently brush hair, creating a side part.
3. Take 2- to 3-inch sections of hair and set each section in a large Velcro roller, curling from the bottom up and secure on head at ear level. Allow to air-dry for a few minutes or blast rollers with a blow-dryer to save time and make curls last longer.
4. Unroll hair from rollers and brush hair smooth with a flat boar-bristle brush.
5. Gently lift the hair at the crown of the head and lightly tease hair just at the back of the part with a bristle brush or comb. Spray the teased section with a volumizing spray. Gently smooth teased section, keeping the lift but ensuring a clean look overall.
6. Pull hair back into a low ponytail, keeping the sides taut but allowing the crown to stay full. Secure with a ponytail holder, but leave a small section of hair, about 2-inch, aside at the nape of your neck.
7. After ponytail is secured, wrap the 2-inch-wide section of hair around and over the ponytail holder to conceal it and secure with a bobby pin.
8. For more hold, mist entire updo with hairspray and for additional shine spray with a shine serum.
