DIY Wedding Hair: A So-Chic Side Chignon : Save the Date: Weddings: glamour.com

DIY Wedding Hair: A So-Chic Side Chignon : Save the Date: Weddings: glamour.com

Got long, relatively straight hair you want to put up for your wedding day (or for bridesmaid duty)? Here's the how-to for a soft, wavy side chignon.

This idea comes to us from Naeemah Carre, bridal specialist at Blow, The New York Blow Dry Bar.

1. Start by curling the hair with a 1-inch curling iron. Spray each section before you curl it. Curl the sides away from face and the top sections back, pinning each ringlet to your scalp as you go. Let these pincurls cool.

2. Tease the hair at the crown and on the side where you'll wear your chignon. "This creates not only volume but a base for your chignon so that your pins have something to hold onto, ensuring that your style lasts all night," Naeemah notes.

3. Begin forming the side chignon by bringing hair towards one side and securing with two bobby pins, creating an X. This ensures that your pins are nice and secure. Then pick up small sections and pin very naturally to create a loose, romantic texture.

4. Use the pointed end of a comb to lift hair at your crown and add more volume where desired (if you want more). Spray with strong-hold hairspray.

The finished result:

Do you guys like the side-chignon look for weddings? I think it's so pretty, since you can glimpse more of the hair from the front as well as the back.
